RES Software demonstrates solutions to aid desktop virtualisation and migration projects at VM09
CAMBERLEY, SURREY, SEPTEMBER 28th, 2009 – RES Software, the leading provider of User Workspace Management software, will be exhibiting at the VM09 Expo, to be held in London on 7th-8th October.
RES Software will be demonstrating its award-winning User Workspace Management software, which enables IT professionals to centrally compose, deliver and manage an end user’s “personal” workspace across any desktop environment, whether local, thin or virtual.
Visitors to RES Software’s booth (stand number 860) will see demonstrations of key technologies for virtual desktop deployment, including the company’s patented WorkSpace Extender technology.
WorkSpace Extender enables virtual desktops and local applications to be merged into a single end-user workspace without compromising the manageability benefits of VDI. It is useful for virtualised environments that require access to media intensive applications including CD/DVD applications, VOIP and video.
RES Software will also be showcasing how companies can fast-track desktop migration projects, including large-scale virtualisation deployments and enterprise and SMB upgrades to Windows 7, using its RES PowerFuse solution.
Grant Tiller, Business Development Manager at RES Software, commented, “The upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 is likely to be extremely challenging for businesses. User profiles are completely incompatible between the two operating systems, so any update between Windows XP and Windows 7 could require extensive manual migration of settings from the old instance to the new one. There is a huge amount of interest in Windows 7, but it’s vital for businesses that migration is made as easy as possible and avoids disruption to the end-user community. RES Software’s approach to workspace management provides a simple, effective way to overcome these challenges.”
RES PowerFuse provides a seamless, automated migration path between operating systems by ensuring all personalisation elements are decoupled from the OS and can be applied to any version of Windows. This approach makes the process of reapplying a user’s settings to a new OS version extremely simple, ensuring that users can continue to be productive while removing one of the biggest hurdles for businesses to adopting Windows 7.
RES Software’s Workspace Management solutions enable an enterprise to centrally manage an end user’s “personal” workspace – the unique combination of personal desktop settings, security, and administrative profile – separately from the user’s underlying applications, systems software, and hardware. This greatly simplifies IT administration, ensures compliance, and saves money.
