RES Software Adds Self-Service to New 2011 Version of its Proven RES Automation Manager

New Service Orchestration Module Offers Increased Automation and Flexibility to Create IT as a Service Offerings that Help Preserve Valuable IT Resources

BERLIN, Germany – October 6, 2010 –  At Citrix Synergy today, RES Software, the proven leader in dynamic desktop solutions, announced enhanced features to RES Automation Manager (formerly RES Wisdom), which provides task automation and resource provisioning for Microsoft Windows. RES Automation Manager 2011 includes a new layer of service orchestration that increases IT professionals’ efficiency, flexibility and scalability over automation and provisioning functions. As a result, there is a decrease in the amount of time, money and complexity involved in delivering services end users need to complete tasks.

RES Automation Manager, proven to reduce resources expended by IT, will now include the RES Service Orchestration Module. This module enables IT to use business rules to automate their service delivery needs and offer IT as a service to end users. Some common examples of how organization can benefit from Service Orchestration Module include:

• Establishing an IT service catalog that end-users can leverage to choose necessary services. Once approved by a manager, the services will automatically be turned on, removing IT dependency and saving valuable time.
• Programming the system to recognize when a user joins a department. All necessary services will be enabled to allow automatic, uninterrupted access to the tools users need to do their work effectively.

“IT management has become a critical part of today’s enterprises. But as IT’s responsibilities have grown, so has the list of time consuming tasks that take up valuable resources. The time spent on manual tasks and activities actually hinder many IT departments from adding value to their business through strategic projects,” said Bob Janssen, CTO of RES Software. “With RES Automation Manager 2011, we are offering a solution that enables IT as a service to be delivered to the end-user. This reduces dependency on the IT team and allows them to spend more time focusing on projects that will help drive the business forward.”

In addition to the new service orchestration features, RES Software has enhanced the proven task automation and resource provisioning features of the solution for greater scalability and ease-of-use:

• Task Automation: Enables IT departments to configure today’s common IT tasks out-of-the-box, providing unparalleled levels of scalability and management flexibility, all from a centrally managed console. As result, IT can easily make changes to a large number of desktops, more effectively transfer configurations across different environments and improve their ability to troubleshoot system issues.
• Resource Provisioning: RES Automation Manager allows IT to link multiple, pre-defined tasks into lists called run books that provision resources within the organization. These run books allow IT professionals to schedule jobs or modules on different computers all from one central location. This helps to streamline the roll out and support of new computers and control the scheduling and execution times of assigned tasks across multiple computers.

RES Automation Manager 2011 is now available as a release candidate and will ship on November 1. Automation Manager is a part of RES Dynamic Desktop Studio. Dynamic Desktop Studio also includes RES Workspace Manager and RES Virtual Desktop Extender. The new Service Orchestration Module serves as a critical feature unifying Automation Manager and Workspace Manager to offer more seamless creation and management of an organization’s dynamic desktops.

The launch of RES Automation Manager 2011 also coincides with the unveiling of a new website, corporate identity, product packaging scheme and partner portal.
